Welcome to my site. I'm a Texas-born journalist living and writing in New York City.
I'm a reporting fellow at ProPublica, a non-profit investigative newsroom, where I cover health care. Previously, I was an education reporter at The Teacher Project, which covers the next generation of America's teachers for Slate.
As a former teacher, my primary reporting interest is in the well-being of children — from the schools they attend, to the doctors they visit, to the social services that care for their needs. I have written about power of the homeschool lobby, nursing regulation in New York, mental health in Texas, refugee education in Alaska, shifting racial demographics in Portland and more.
